HI-LOW: in Hi-Low poker games, the highest and lowest hands split the pot.
HOLE CARDS: connected cards in stud or community games such as Holdem or Ohmaha.
IN : if you call all bets, you’re still “in” a hand.
INSIDE STRAIGHT: a four-straight where you need one specific card to fill a straight. For instance, 9-10-Q-K. Chasing an inside straight can be risky. See open-ended straight
KICKER: another card, usually high, that strengthens your hand but does not contribute to a pair or better. A hand of 10-10-A-6-4 would be a “pair of 10s with an Ace kicker.”
LIMIT POKER: a online poker game in which maximum bet limits are established.
LOCK: See Clinch.
MAKE: to make the deck means to shuffle.
NUTS : see Clinch.
OPEN: to make the first bet in a game.
OPEN-ENDED STRAIGHT: four cards in sequence that can become a straight with two different cards on either end. For instance, 8-9-10-J (a 7 or Q would fill the straight). See Inside straight
POT ODDS: the ratio of money in the pot to the money you must put in to stay in the hand. Calculating pot odds is a good way to figure if it is worth staying in a hand.
RAISE: to increase the amount of the previous bet. I’ll see your $5 and raise you another $ 10.” See Bump.
RIVER: the final card exposed in a community game. See fifth Street.
SANDBAGGING: see Check-raise.
SEE: to see a bet means to call or match the previous.
SHOWDOWN: the point at which players expose their hands to determine the winner.

STAND PAT: to not take any cards from the deck in a draw game.
STEAL: taking the pot with a poor hand by bluffing your opponents into folding.
STREAK: a run of good or bad cards.
STUD: a poker game in which each player is dealt a card or cards facedown followed by up cards.
SUITED: cards of the same suit. If you are dealt the Ace and King of Spades you have “Ace-King” suited.
TELL: a mannerism that gives away a poker players hand.
TIGHT: a conservative player who usually only bets when his hand is strong. See Loose.
TRIPS: three of a kind.
TURN: in a community game, the fourth card turned over. See Fourth Street.
UNSUITED: cards of different suits.
UP CARD: a card exposed to the table.
