OMAHA HI-LOW
Sample Hand:
PLAYING 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 as the best low
BET: $1 / $2
POCKET CARDS:
- PLAYER 1: 2♥, 6♦, 9♦, J♥
- PLAYER 2: Q♦, Q♥, 8♠, 7♦
- PLAYER 3: 2♣, 4♥, 5♦, 10♠
- PLAYER 4: K♥, 2♠, J♦, 10♥
- PLAYER 5: 4♦, 5♥, 2♦, 7♥
FIST BETTING ROUND (remember, no checking):
- PLAYER 1: Bets $1. He is not thrilled with his low cards and worries that his hearts and diamonds are too low.
- PLAYER 2: Calls the bet. Although the pair of Queens looks good, he will probably fold if the Ace or King appears in the flop.
- PLAYER 3: Calls. Does not have the greatest low cards and is worried that someone has the Ace and 3.
- PLAYER 4: Calls. Feels good with the two high hearts. The low is not possible.
- PLAYER 5: Calls. This hand offers several possibilities, but he is worried about the medium-range cards he has.
THE FLOP: A♠, 3♥, K♠
- PLAYER 1: Checks. Has a good low hand in the works with his A-2-3-6.
- PLAYER 2: Checks. The flop produces the dreaded King and Ace. He will see how people bet.
- PLAYER 3: Bets $1. So far, he has a great low hand, but knows he needs the 6. Although he doesn’t have it yet, he feels confident.
- PLAYER 4: Folds. The low is not an option. He’s afraid of the Ace and doesn’t have a two-pair option. If he had been checked, he would’ve called.
- PLAYER 5: Raises $1. He is in the last position, which is a great advantage, and, with a great low hand in the works, he decides to pick up the betting poker.
- PLAYER 1: Calls.
- PLAYER 2: Folds.
- PLAYER 3: Calls.
THE TURN: A♠, 3♥, K♠, 6♣
- PLAYER 1: Checks. Not happy that a 6 turned up since he now needs a 5 to get the low. He needs one more heart for the flush but knows that his Jack is weak.
- PLAYER 3: Bets $2. He’s secured the perfect low.
- PLAYER 5: Raises $2. He has also secured the perfect low hand and now has four hearts.
- PLAYER 1: Folds. The betting is indicating that the other guys have the low.
- PLAYER 3: Calls the raise and raises back.
- PLAYER 5: Calls the raise.
THE RIVER : A♠, 3♥, K♠, 6♣, 9♥
- PLAYER 3: Bests $2. Feeling extremely confident with his low poker hand.
- PLAYER 5: Calls. He now has the great low hand and the flush but he is worried that Player 3 has a higher pocket heart.
DELCARATION OF HIGH OR LOW:
- PLAYER 3: Going low.
- PLAYER 5: Going only low. He figures it’s not worth the risk.
- Each player bets the $2.
WINNER: The players split the pot since they both have the best low.
